Tender Drops of Rain – Poem

Where did this come from
and how might it end
like the beats of my heart
drops pound over again

This quiet surprise
a welcome intrusion
took my heart from its
place of lonely seclusion

So quickly the rain built
from mist to steady fall
Til my heart was completely
caught up – all in all

Gentle dew in the morning
to sweet drops in the night
Let the rain come as swiftly
and clearly as it might

My dry heart was so thirsty
the drops quenched its desire
Dulcet drizzle, tender torrent
It is flooded through, entire

Where did this come from
and how might it end
like the beats of my heart
drops pound over again

  1. Absolutely beautiful . . . I love how you use nature to echo the human experience. This phrase in particular really speaks to me:
My dry heart was so thirsty
    the drops quenched its desire
    Dulcet drizzle, tender torrent
    It is flooded through, entire

The image you’ve created makes rain into something more than just drops of water. Nicely done!

Oooo, “dulcet” is a great word. 🙂
